June Speaker  Dr. Emi Latham, M.D.

 

Here’s a speaker you don’t want to miss.  Dr. Emi Latham, MD, is a board-certified emergency physician who specializes in undersea and hyperbaric medicine. Her expertise includes preventing and treating disease and injury in divers and other individuals working in altered atmospheric conditions. Within UC San Diego Health’s Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Care Program, Dr. Latham assesses a person’s fitness to dive, treats diving accidents and uses hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to treat conditions such as decompression illness, carbon monoxide poisoning, gas gangrene, non-healing wounds and tissue damage from radiation, burns or infection.

 

Dr. Latham will cover some of the issues which can arise while engaged in diving activities.  She will also answer questions you may have about diving physiology, diving limitations (medical issues, medicines, etc.), diving fitness, precautions while diving and probably any other topics which arise.

 

Dr. Latham completed a fellowship in undersea and hyperbaric medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine. During her fellowship she trained at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the National Baromedical Services in Columbia, S.C., and Long Beach Memorial Hospital. She completed a residency in emergency medicine at Akron General Medical Center. Dr. Latham earned her medical degree from The Medical College of Ohio. She is board-certified in emergency medicine and hyperbaric medicine.
